Product Description
NewFlow™ fluid thinner is a modified sodium lignosulfonate used in water-based drilling fluids. This highly anionic polyelectrolyte contains chrome to assist in thinning the viscosity that results from the build-up of drilled solids.
Benefits
NewFlow chrome lignosulfonate thins through its superior deflocculation capability. In polymer systems, only the viscosity generated by the solids contained in the system is affected. It will not reduce the viscosity obtained from polymers in the system.
Application
NewFlow fluid thinner can be used in freshwater, seawater, low-solids or polymer drilling fluids, including those high in calcium or monovalent cations. It is equally effective in both weighted and unweighted systems.
Treatment Recommendation
NewFlow thinner is effective at low treatment levels. Varying treatment levels, 2-5 lb/bbl, depend on the type of drilling fluid, its density and operating temperature. Initial treatments are best determined by pilot testing. A minimum pH of 9.0 is recommended for maximum solubility and effectiveness.
