Product Description
NewGel™ viscosifier is a finely ground, premium-grade, western bentonite. It is used in water-based drilling fluids as an agent for filter cake building, filtration control and suspension.
Benefits
- Increases viscosity and improves hole cleaning
- Reduces filtration rates into permeable zones
- Deposits a thin, tough filter cake
- Stabilizes the wellbore through the plastering effect in poorly cemented formations
- Provides gel structure to water-based drilling fluids
Application
NewGel viscosifier is used in freshwater drilling fluid and can be pre-hydrated for use in saltwater fluids. It is used in concentrations of 5-30 lb/bbl.
Treatment Recommendation
NewGel bentonite can be mixed directly into the system through the hopper or pre-hydrated in freshwater before being added to the system. For maximum yield, NewGel viscosifier should be mixed in freshwater. As the hardness and salinity of the make-up water increases, the yield of the gel will decrease. Near maximum yields can be obtained if the water salinity and hardness are maintained below 5,000 mg/L chlorides and 200 mg/L total hardness, respectively.
